Head Coach Steve Smith
On Wade Mackey's performance:
"It was just what the doctor ordered. We had our hands full offensively in trying to make so many adjustments in this game. We finally got a bunt down after seeing that guy one time through the order when we needed to do something a little bit different. Our guys were having a hard time hitting the ball on the ground. Raynor put down the first of two really good bunts and turned it into a double, and we were able to manufacture a run. Wade did a great job and Weghorst did too. We weren't incredibly deep pitching tonight, and if Wade had spit up the bit early it would've been an interesting night for us."
On Prairie View's five infield hits in the seventh inning:
"They were one swing of the bat away from adding more to us. Wade was able to keep his composure. If he doesn't put them at second and third with wild pitches, he might've gotten out of it a little bit easier. We made it interesting. The play of the game might've been Dustin Dickerson. It's not often that you see a guy throw a ball to first with the base runner running full speed to second. It takes a special pitcher to do that, but it takes an even more special first baseman to get rid of it and make an accurate throw, get the tag and then get the out. I was amazed we got the out."
On Sodolak's home run:
"I was a little surprised today because the park was playing very big. Sodolak hit his square and that ball was more of a line drive out of the park. Beamer hit a lot of balls really well that would've had a chance to get out on a lot of nights."
On Prairie View's performance:
"I thought they played extremely well. I was watching them after they took the lead and there was not anyone on the field that looked surprised by that. That looked very comfortable and very composed out there, and I tip my hat to them."
Baylor senior catcher Matt Sodolak
On hitting his first career home run:
"I wasn't thinking about hitting a home run. I had a 2-1 count and I was thinking about hitting something hard and I guess I got enough of it."
On Prairie View's pitching:
"They came out and they played well. Their first pitcher kept us off balance the whole time, and then they brought in a right handed pitcher who was throwing in the middle 80s and it made it look a lot faster than it was."
On Wade Mackey's performance:
"Wade did a great job. He hit his spots with his fastball and he had great command of his slider. He had some good life on his fastball in the seventh, and when a sinkerball pitcher gets a little tired they'll get a little more run on their ball."
Baylor freshman pitcher Wade Mackey
On pitching a career-long seven innings:
"It's been a while since I've had a very long outing, so I was glad to be able to get through the first five and then keep going and stretch it out a little bit. I noticed a little bit that it was the longest I've been out there, but I still felt pretty well."
On bouncing back from his last outing:
"This past weekend wasn't exactly what I would've wanted it to be, so it was good to come out and have another good outing. My slider was a little better tonight."
On Prairie View's five infield hits in the seventh inning:
"It wasn't nice to see, but I was just trying to keep them from scoring. They finally did a little, but we kept it from getting too big, and we came back and won the game."
