WACO, Texas - The Baylor volleyball team swept the Baylor Spring Tournament, winning all six of its matches on Saturday at the Baylor Student Life Center.
The Lady Bears took matches from TCU, UT-Arlington, Blinn, Barton County, St. Mary's, and Navarro Junior College.
"Our young team took some big steps this Spring in becoming a top Big 12 team," said head coach Jim Barnes. "We improved our skills, teamwork, toughness and leadership. We competed very well beating our last nine opponents."
Baylor was led in kills by rising sophomores Anna Breyfogle (Buda, Texas) and Katie Sanders (Katy, Texas). Rising senior Amanda Modglin (Houston, Texas) took over setting duties, with rising sophomore Taylor Barnes (Arlington, Texas) missing the tournament due to injury. The Bears also saw improved defense from rising senior Kristen Schramek (San Antonio, Texas) as well as rising junior Amanda Elliot (Richmond, Texas) and rising sophomore Kelsey Smith (Lubbock, Texas).
"Now we look forward to welcoming our five newcomers onto our team this summer and working to reach our potential," said Barnes. "Our entire team will be on campus this summer working out, and I think that will help us a great deal since we have nine players on our roster who are freshmen and sophomores."
The Lady Bears open their 2007 season traveling to Buffalo, N.Y. to take part in the University at Buffalo Classic on August 24-25.
