WACO, Texas - For the fifth straight season, the Baylor men's tennis team finished the season ranked among the nation's top four team. The Bears completed their 2007 campaign with a 28-4 mark and were ranked No. 4 in the FILA/Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) final national rankings.
Baylor, the most successful men's teams over the past five seasons, has been ranked no lower than No. 4 in the final poll during that span. The Bears were ranked No. 1 after winning the 2004 NCAA Championship, No. 2 in the final poll in 2005 and No. 4 in 2003 and '06.
In the past four years, Baylor is the only men's team to advance to the NCAA semifinals all four years. During that span, the Bears have posted a 118-14 (.894) mark and in the past six years head coach Matt Knoll's teams have posted an impressive 173-17 (.906) record.
Four of Baylor's six singles players were ranked in the final FILA collegiate tennis rankings. Lars Poerschke ended the season ranked No. 12, dropping one spot from the previous list (April 30). The junior earned All-America status for the second straight season and also earned Big 12 Player of the Year honors while posting a 27-9 record. Michal Kokta completed his senior season with a 27-11 mark and ranked No. 22 while freshman Dominik Mueller (32-9) checked in at No. 101 and senior Matija Zgaga (28-6) was ranked No. 118.
Two doubles tandems were listed in the rankings as well. Kokta and Poerschke finished the season with a 10-2 mark and are ranked No. 31 while Zgaga and sophomore David Galic sit right behind them at No. 32.
