WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's track and field team tied with Florida State for the No. 1 spot in the 51st annual Track and Field News National Relay Rankings. Baylor was also ranked No. 1 in the nation in 1989.
In the closest finish in history, Baylor and Florida State tied with 29 total points, while LSU finished second with 28 points. Teams were awarded points based on the 2007 NCAA performance lists and scored 10 points for the national-leading time, nine points for second place, eight points for third, etc.
Baylor had the fastest times in the nation in the 4x200- and 4x400-meter relays, and ranked second in the sprint medley relay. Florida State took first in the 4x100-meter relay and the sprint medley relay, while finishing second in the 4x200-meter relay.
Baylor won the national championship in the 4x400-meter relay, while the Seminoles claimed the 4x100-meter relay championship. Neither the 4x200-meter relay nor the sprint medley relay are NCAA Championship events.
