TULSA, Okla. - Baylor's Attila Bucko and David Galic each lost their singles matches on Sunday to bow out of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
In the third round, Galic, a junior, fell to the prequalifying draw's No. 3 seed, David Kuczer of SMU in three sets. After losing the first set 6-0, Galic bounced back to take the second one 6-4. However Kuczer hung in there and won the final set 7-5.
Bucko, a sophomore, downed Danny Dossetor of the Citadel in third round action. Bucko lost the first set in a tiebreaker 7-6(6) but regrouped and won the match with 6-3, 6-1 decisions. In the fourth round, Bucko met Ohio State's Matt Allare but dropped a 7-5, 7-6 decision to end his hopes of advancing to the qualifying draw.
Junior Matt Brown, sophomores Denes Lukacs and Dominik Mueller and freshman Jordan Rux will begin qualifying tournament play on Monday, Oct. 1.
Lukacs, ranked No. 78, will be the first Bear to hit the court when he takes on Enrique Olivares of East Tennessee State at 10 a.m. Mueller, the qualifying draw's No. 13 seed and ranked No. 61, will play at 10:30 a.m., against a yet to be named player who advanced from the prequalifying draw. Brown, ranked No. 110, takes the court at 1:30 p.m., against Tulsa's Albert Jou while Rux's first match is slated to begin at 5:30 p.m. Rux, ranked No. 113, is matched up against New Mexico's Johnny Parkes.
The Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championships offer the first national singles and doubles titles of the 2007-08 collegiate tennis season, and are followed by the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in November and the third event is the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
This year's event is being hosted by the University of Tulsa for the third straight time, at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center - site of the 2004 and 2008 NCAA Championships.
