Named preseason All-America by three outlets this season, Weems hit .321 with nine home runs and 59 RBI as a sophomore last season. He shared the team lead in home runs and hits (71), and he led the Bears in RBI, doubles (17), total bases (125) and walks (35). Weems was even stronger at the plate in Big 12 play, hitting .361 with five home runs and 27 RBI in 24 games.
Weems is most known for his defense, though, committing just 22 errors in 534 career chances in the field. He has committed only five fielding errors as the other 16 errors were throwing miscues. As a freshman in 2006, Weems was one of only three freshmen nationally to commit 10 or fewer errors; he was the only one of that trio to start at least 60 games.
No. 15 Baylor opens its 2008 season Feb. 22-24, hosting Purdue for a three-game series at Baylor Ballpark.
