Somehow, Baylor is back. It is a tale of redemption not to be found in the Good Book, the ''Lonesome Dove'' series or even ''Sacred Hoops.''
The 11th-seeded Bears (21-10) will make their first NCAA tournament appearance since 1988 vs. No. 6 Purdue (24-8) in a first-round game of the West Regional on Thursday at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. As the school motto implies -- ''For Church, For Texas'' -- they have never wanted for immutable faith around the main campus in Waco. With close to 14,000 students, Baylor is the largest Baptist university in the world. It is also the only private school in the Big 12.
