BAYLOR HITS THE ROAD FOR ACU TRIANGULAR
The Baylor men's and women's track and field teams will hit the road to participate in the ACU Triangular on Friday in Abilene, Texas at Bud Elmer Stadium. The one-day meet begins on Friday at 1:30 p.m. with field events. Running events begin will begin at 5:30 p.m. Also competing will be Abilene Christian and North Texas. Following competition at the ACU Triangular, the Bears return to action on April 3-5 as Baylor travels to participate in the Texas Relays. LAST YEAR AT THE ACU TRIANGULAR
Baylor did not compete in the 2007 ACU Triangular, but instead traveled to participate in the Stanford Invitational. The men's 4x400-meter relay team took first place with the nation's fastest time, and Brittany Devereaux broke her second school record in as many days as Baylor completed competition at the Stanford Invitational held at Cobb Track and Angell Field. Devereaux shattered the women's hammer throw school record on Friday, and followed that performance by setting a new record in the women's discus throw on Saturday. Devereaux's toss of 54.42 meters (178-06) broke her own school record by almost one foot. The men's 4x400-meter relay team clocked a time of 3:05.29 to win the event with the fastest time in the nation this season. Baylor has not lost a mile relay race to a collegiate team this year, falling only to Team USA at the Tyson Invitational during the indoor season. The Bears set 20 regional qualifying marks on the weekend, including 13 on Saturday. Baylor has now recorded 29 regional marks this season, setting nine at the Dr Pepper Invitational last weekend. The women's 4x400-meter team lowered its regional qualifying time by nearly four seconds, finishing in second place in 3:37.30. The men's 4x400-meter relay "B" team nearly qualified for the regional meet, clocking 3:10.60 to finish third. The 4x100-meter relay teams also recorded regional qualifying times in a winning effort. The women won with a time of 45.17, while the men took first in 39.91.

The Baylor men's and women's track and field teams started the outdoor season in style, recording 14 NCAA Regional qualifying marks on Saturday at the Dr Pepper Invitational. In addition, the Bears won 21 events and set two new school records. Last season Baylor won 22 events, but set just nine NCAA Regional qualifying marks in its outdoor season-opening meet. Brittany Devereaux broke her own school record in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 49.58m (162-08) to finish second overall. Devereaux topped her old school mark by nearly 11 feet, and now holds four of the top 10 marks all-time at Baylor. Kaleigh Teel also set a new school mark, clearing a regional qualifying height of 3.85m (12-07 ½) on her first attempt. Teel, who previously shared the school record at 12-01 ½ with Kendra Phelps, qualified for the region meet for the first time in her career. Courtney Thomas won both the 100 and 200 meters with regional qualifying times. He opened with a 10.46 in the 100 meters, and blazed the field in the 200 meters with a time of 20.82. Justin Boyd, the third leg on Baylor's NCAA champion 4x400-meter relay, clocked a regional time of 51.09 in the 400-meter hurdles. The Lady Bears swept the top three spots in the women's 100 meters with three regional qualifying times. Brittany Carr won the event in 11.67, with Tiffany Townsend coming in second in 11.70 and Jessica Gregory in third at 11.71. Carla Grace clocked 23.66 in the 200 meters for a regional mark, while Carr tallied her second NCAA Regional mark of the day, with a time of 23.96 in the 200 meters. Lauren Hagans and Nichole Jones finished one-two in the women's 1,500 meters, with Hagans clocking 4:17.55 and Jones finishing in 4:18.50, both regional qualifying times. The times are the second- and third-best in Baylor history, trailing only Sandy Forsythe's 4:16.82 during the 1986 season.
