Baylor head coach Steve Smith:
On sweeping the series:
"It was one of those weekends where our guys realized that our backs were against the wall, and it was a very important weekend. You can't sweep it until you win the first couple. We were able to win the game on Friday, and that was probably a huge win in the way that game was won. The last two days we've been pretty good offensively, and we've been just good enough on the mound."
On today's game:
"This was a hitter's day. The wind is blowing straight out, the ground is hard, and both teams took advantage of it. We were able to get a little more done than they were, and from that standpoint I guess we out-pitched them today, but both teams were able to be productive offensively."
On the offense getting 41 hits on the weekend:
"Everybody participated this weekend. Nobody really got stuffed, and everybody had a part in it. We had some pretty timely hits and some good at bats from a lot of different guys."
On Willie Kempf's performance:
"Willie was really good early on. Sometimes when you get staked a large lead like that it can mess with your head a little bit, and he certainly got out of whack with the walks, but he competed."
Baylor junior LF Ben Booker:
On getting the series sweep:
"We really needed it as a ballclub. We've struggled since conference (play) started, but nothing's better than a sweep."
On the offensive outburst:
"Ever since the last two innings of the game we lost to UTSA (Wednesday), our at bats have been awesome. Everybody's not swinging at the bad pitches - we're taking those and hitting the good ones, so the team's swinging it well."
On going 10-for-16 with three home runs, 11 RBI and 22 total bases over the past week:
"I'm seeing it really well. I was struggling early in conference, but that's baseball and that's going to happen. You just can't get your head down. You have to go up there and be confident; if you're not confident then you're not going to hit the ball."
Baylor junior SS Beamer Weems:
On today's game:
"Hitting is always contagious. A couple of guys had some really good at bats, and we just rolled from there. It felt really good to come together."
On the offense scoring 17 runs:
"We've had some good walks and we've been minimizing strikeouts, so we're waiting for our pitches and taking advantage of them. We've definitely become more selective up there."
On coming out of a slump:
"When the balls aren't falling you've just got to keep swinging. If you play long enough they're going to fall once in a while. Watching the other guys get hits has definitely been contagious, so I've just got to keep swinging and it should be a good end to the season."
On sweeping the series:
"Sweeps are always great. Sometimes teams come out not really ready to play when they have the opportunity to sweep, but today we really saw the opportunity to get three wins this weekend, and we came out here stronger than ever. It just feels great to get three wins in a weekend."
Baylor sophomore RF Aaron Miller:
On today's game:
"You can't ask for a better day than this. The sun's out and it's just an amazing day - not hot, and the wind is blowing out, so you can't really complain about that. We had a few guys get the ball up in the air to see what we could do with it, and we got it enough to get out."
On the offense accumulating 41 hits over the weekend:
"It was needed. We've flirted with it a little bit - with putting stuff together. The last two days we've definitely started to put back-to-back hits together. We've had some really good at bats one after the other. That's what we're going to have to do for the rest of conference. The Big 12 is a great conference, and everybody is going to be a match, so we'll just have to keep on doing that to keep on winning."
On getting the sweep:
"We needed it. We were down there a little lower after the last couple of weekends when we haven't been playing really well. Getting a sweep puts us right back in the middle of the pack and it gives us a chance to make a run at it."
