Bears Hold Off UT Arlington 6-5

Baylor scored all six runs in the first three innings. Dustin Dickerson had a sacrifice fly in the first inning, and Adam Hornung followed with a two-run homer off the scoreboard in left-center. After UTA scored a run on back-to-back two-out hits in the top of the second, Shaver Hansen pushed the Bears' lead to 4-1 with an RBI double in the bottom of the frame. Ben Booker had a two-run double in the third as Baylor staked a 6-1 lead.
However, UT Arlington began chipping away with two runs on four hits in the fourth. The Mavericks opened the inning with three straight singles to load the bases. A double-play ball scored the first run, and Preston McCoy followed with an RBI single off pitcher Wade Mackey's foot. McCoy cut Baylor's lead to one run with a two-out, two-run double in the sixth, but that was as close as the Mavericks would get.
Aaron Miller (1-0) earned his first career victory in a predetermined 2.0-inning start. He allowed one run on three hits and no walks with three strikeouts. Wade Mackey was touched for four runs on nine hits and no walks with five strikeouts, tying his career high.
Linebaugh, who made his 58th career appearance and 31st career relief appearance in Wednesday's game, turned in his best performance of the season. He entered the game in the seventh and allowed a walk and single. Collin Garner followed with a pinch-hit sacrifice bunt to put runners at second and third with one out. Linebaugh struck out the next two batters to get out of the jam and ended up retiring the game's final nine batters. He finished with five strikeouts, a season high.
UTA out-hit Baylor 13-6, but five of the Bears' six hits were for extra bases. Hansen finished 2-for-3, turning in Baylor's lone multiple-hit outing. Dickerson and Raynor Campbell both added doubles.
