TULSA, Okla. - Baylor's Denes Lukacs and Lars Poerschke will begin play in the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships on Wednesday, May 21. The two players are part of a 64-player field selected for the competition. All matches will be played at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Okla.
Poerschke, ranked No. 8, is seeded in the 1-8 range while the ninth-ranked Lukacs is a 9-16 seed. Along with the prestige of receiving a top seeding in the tournament, players who are seeded automatically obtain All-America status. This marks Poerschke's fourth appearance at the NCAA Tournament and his third time to earn All-American in singles, while Lukacs earned All-America honors for the first time and is making his first appearance in the tournament..
In round of 64 action, Lukacs will take on Denver's Adam Holmstrom who is ranked No. 45 at 1 p.m. The winner of the Lukacs/Holmstrom will play the winner between 45th-ranked Albert Larregola of Virginia Tech and No. 123 Victor Lamm of UC Irvine. Poerschke's first round match, which is slated to begin at 12:30 p.m., will be against 63rd-ranked Dean Jackson of San Diego. The winner of that match will face off against the Alexey Tsyrenov (auburn) and Borja Zarco (Tennessee Tech) match.
Lukacs owns the team's best singles record this season at 44-9 and is 24-4 in dual match play. The sophomore from Eger, Hungary, is 22-8 versus ranked opponents this season and has won 14 straight matches.
Poerschke, a senior from Buseck, Germany, is 1-8 o the season including a 13-8 record against ranked opponents.
