COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Baylor track and field team began action on Saturday at the 2008 USA Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Jesse Owens Stadium.

Freshman Tiffany Townsend advanced to Sunday's finals in the women's 200 meters with a time of 23.40, the fastest time of the preliminary heats by more than two-tenths of a second. Earlier this month, Townsend earned three All-America honors at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Marcus Boyd also advanced to the finals in the men's 400 meters with a time of 46.45 to win his heat. The three-time All-American holds the second-fastest time of the preliminaries heading into Sunday's event finals.

Also running on Sunday is Nichole Jones, who will be competing in the women's 1,500 meters. With no preliminary rounds in the event, 14 competitors will begin tomorrow's final heat at 3:50 p.m.
