No. 7 Nebraska Sweeps No. 19 VB

WACO, Texas - After losing a narrow first set, No. 19 Baylor couldn't recover against seventh-ranked Nebraska in a Husker sweep (28-26, 25-17, 25-17) inside the Ferrell Center on Wednesday night.

The Bears took the Huskers to the brink of the first set having set-point on three separate occasions, but were unable to close out and Nebraska stormed back from down 24-22 to take the set. From that point, NU controlled the match, with Baylor's last lead coming at 8-7 in the second set.

On offense, the Huskers racked up 53 kills to just 36 for Baylor, including three in double digits. Baylor hit just .169 in the match, compared to .320 for Nebraska. Husker freshman Hannah Werth had a match-high 13, while Kori Cooper and Brooke Delano each had 10. Senior Katie Sanders was the only Bear in double-digit kills with 12, while adding 10 digs for her 10th double-double of the season.

On defense, Allison King joined Sanders in double figures in digs with a team-high 15. Caitlyn Trice added 10. The Huskers out-dug Baylor 56-46, led by a match-high 22 from Kayla Banwarth.

In the first set, Baylor seized control early leading 4-0 after two service aces by Trice and two kills by Anna Breyfogle. NU closed to within 8-7, but Baylor responded with a 7-2 run, highlighted by back-to-back kills from Sanders, to push the score to 16-10. Nebraska tied it at 20 with a kill by Werth, but Baylor made it set-point after a block assist from Sanders and Torri Campbell. The Huskers matched Baylor at 24 with a kill and a block by Lindsey Licht, then fought off another set point. They took the advantage with a kill from setter Sydney Anderson, and earned the set after a Baylor attack error, 28-26.

In the second set, the Bears again held the lead 8-7 with a triple block by Breyfogle, Ashley Byrd and Ashlie Christenson. The Huskers, however, took over the set from that point, going on an 8-2 run. Baylor traded point-for-point, only closing to within six at 20-14 on a Byrd kill. After a kill by NU's Tara Mueller, a Baylor attack error gave Nebraska a set-win 25-17.

In the third set, Baylor tied it at 6-6 with back-to-back points, including a kill by Sanders. But, Nebraska grabbed hold of the set from there putting on two 4-0 runs to make it 18-8. Two kills by Qian Zhang made it 23-15, but the Huskers finished off the set with a kill by Cooper.

Baylor (17-3, 6-3 Big 12) will be back in action on the road at the University of Oklahoma on Saturday. The match is scheduled for noon in Norman, Okla.
