SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
• Kansas State enters the match with a 8-11 record on the season, including an 2-7 mark in league play under ninth-year head coach Suzie Fritz. Fritz has compiled a 171-79 mark in her first eight seasons.
• The Wildcat attack is quarterbacked by setter Soriana Pacheco, who is averaging 10.04 assists per set.
• OH Julianne Chisholm leads the team with 3.04 kills per set, while Kelsey Chipman is averaging 2.62, while freshman Kathleen Ludwig is averaging 2.46. Chipman is the second-leading hitter in the Big 12 hitting at a .368 clip.
• On defense, libero Lauren Mathewson leads with 4.27 digs per set, while Chipman is KSU's leading blocker, ranked sixth in the Big 12 at 1.12 blocks per set.
• The Wildcats have served opponents aggressivley, ranked fourth in service aces in the Big 12 with 1.16 per set, led by Ludwig's 0.28 average.
LAST TIME AGAINST KANSAS STATE
No. 24 Baylor's defense came up big time after time to help the Bears to a four-set victory (25-10, 20-25, 25-13, 25-22) over Kansas State on Saturday afternoon inside the Ferrell Center. The match came down to Baylor's defense, which totaled 65 digs and 11 blocks, led by Allison King's 19 digs and Anna Breyfogle's 11 blocks. Baylor forced KSU into a .061 hitting percentage (41k-32e-147) with spectacular play at the net and in the back row.
Along with King, Katie Sanders had double-digit kills with 17, while Taylor Barnes and Jordan Rice each had eight. At the net, six Bears had at least two blocks. Along with Breyfogle's six, Ashlie Christenson and Torri Campbell each had four, while Taylor Barnes had three and Sanders and Elizabeth Graham each had two.
Christenson led the Bears' offense with 14 kills and only three errors on 34 swings (.324). Sanders had her seventh double-double of the season added 11 kills to her 17 digs.
LAST TIME OUT...
No. 19 Baylor battled back from down a set twice against Oklahoma, but fell short in a 3-2 (13-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-19, 12-15) loss at Oklahoma on Saturday afternoon. Baylor came out sluggish, dropping a 25-13 first set, but found some offense in the second and fourth sets. Forcing a fifth set, Baylor couldn't convert opportunities to tie the score in the deciding set. Oklahoma took advantage of a late BU service error and took the match.
Led by right side Suzy Boulavsky's 21 kills and 20 digs, Oklahoma also got 11 kills and nine blocks by Sarah Freudenrich.t. Baylor, meanwhile, had four players in double figures led by Katie Sanders' 12 kills. Anna Breyfogle and Torri Campbell each had 11 kills, while Ashlie Christenson had 10. Setter Taylor Barnes had a solid match for BU with a double-double of 50 assists and 12 digs to go along with seven kills.
The big difference of the match came in the hitting percentage as Baylor hit just .166, frustrated by Oklahoma's block and back row play. The Sooners had 14 blocks and 93 digs, while Baylor managed nine blocks and 76 digs.
