SCOUTING THE RED RAIDERS
• Texas Tech is led by first-year head coach Trish Kissiar-Knight. She compiled a 670-170-3 record in 16 seasons at Missouri State-West Plains (NJCAA).
• Karlyn Meyers sets the table for the Red Raider offense, amassing 471 set assists for an average of 7.98 per set.
• Amanda Dowdy is Meyers' main target, as she has a team-leading 211 kills on 662 total swings, nearly twice as many attempts as the next closest teammate.
• Three Red Raiders have more than 100 digs on the season, with Jenn Goehry's 139 leading the way.
• Also on defense Barbara Conceicao has given the opposition trouble, ranking second in the Big 12 in blocks per set at 1.30. She has totaled 13 solo and 70 block assists in 2009.
• As a team, Texas Tech has compiled an 0-11 record in Big 12 play, and just a 2-18 record overall with wins against Southeastern Louisiana and Gonzaga. Tech has lost 13 matches in a row.
LAST TIME AGAINST TEXAS TECH
Senior Anna Breyfogle and freshman Torri Campbell each hit over .400 to lead the 17th-ranked Bears to a 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-23, 25-20) over Texas Tech at the United Spirit Arena on Wednesday night.
The win marked Baylor's sixth in a row in Big 12 play and moved their overall record to a spectacular 17-1 on the season. Breyfogle and Campbell were nearly unstoppable, combining for 20 kills and just three hitting errors in 31 total attempts. The Bears hit .309 (53-19-110) as a team, due in large part to their middle blockers.
Katie Sanders led BU with 13 kills with six errors on 29 attempts, while Ashlie Christenson added seven and Elizabeth Graham totaled six. Setter Taylor Barnes had a solid all-around night with 42 assists, four kills, and four digs, along with two block assists. Allison King had nine digs to lead the Baylor back row, while Katie Sanders had eight and Jordan Rice had five. Breyfogle, the Big 12's leading blocker, had five blocks (one solo, four assist).
LAST TIME OUT
No. 22 Baylor erased a 2-1 deficit, but couldn't hold on to beat ninth-ranked Iowa State in a 3-2 loss (24-26, 25-21, 25-23, 23-25, 16-14) at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa, on Wednesday night. Baylor's Torri Campbell recorded career highs with 18 kills and nine blocks, but the pesky Cyclones erased two Baylor match-points in the final set to defeat the Bears. The match featured spectacular defense by both teams, as they combined for 226 digs and 24.5 blocks. Iowa State had 122 digs to 104 for Baylor, while the Bears racked up a season-high 15.5 blocks to nine for the Cyclones.
Five players for each team chalked up double figures in digs, libero Allison King had a career-high 32, while Taylor Barnes had 19, and Caitlyn Trice had a career-high 17. Elizabeth Graham recorded double-digit kills for the second match in a row with 10, and three Bears had nine each, including Anna Breyfogle, Katie Sanders, and Ashlie Christenson. Barnes had 50 assists, to go along with her dig total of 19 for her seventh double-double.
