"Tonight we came out real strong," head coach Jim Barnes said. "I like the way we came out, but I don't like how we lost a little of focus and intensity (in the third set). I like how Taylor came out and played very well, setting the tone. We did exactly what we wanted to offensively, setting our middles often. They all hit over .300, so they did a good job."
On defense, Allison King continued her trend of double-digit digs with 13 of Baylor's 48. At the net, Big 12 blocking leader Anna Breyfogle had four block assists, and one solo block, while Barnes and Ashlie Christenson each had two block assists. Baylor held Texas Tech to a .184 hitting percentage (32-13-103). Amanda Dowdy led the Red Raiders with 11 kills.
"Elizabeth, Anna, and Torri really set the tone with a quick offense," Barnes said. "And Katie played really well. We turned it on when we needed to."
In the first set, Texas Tech jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Baylor reeled off a 6-0 run with three consecutive service aces by Barnes. Graham and Sanders each added a kill in the spurt. The Bears put together seven of the last 10 points with two kills each by Christenson and Sanders, then the finisher by Campbell for a 25-17 set win.
The second set started the same way with Texas Tech getting out to a 4-1 lead, but two kills from Graham and a block by Breyfogle and Christenson gave Baylor a 7-5 lead. The Red Raiders tied it at eight, but Baylor scored seven of the next nine with two kills and an ace by Breyfogle then two more aces by Barnes. Tech would get no closer than three the rest of the set with a Sanders spike to finish it 25-20.
