IRVING, Texas - Four student-athletes from Baylor's 24th-ranked volleyball team earned academic all-Big 12 honors, announced today by league officials.

Senior middle blocker Anna Breyfogle and junior defensive specialist Caitlyn Trice were each named the conference's first team, while sophomore defensive specialist Jordan Rice and senior outside hitter Katie Sanders earned second team accolades. The award is the third for Breyfogle, second for Sanders, and the first for both Trice and Rice.

Breyfogle, a psychology major from Buda, Texas, ranks among the elite blockers in Big 12 history, and leads the league for the second consecutive season in blocking at 1.44 per set. She is tied for the BU all-time lead in the rally-scoring era with 600 career blocks, and remains 25 behind BU's all-time leader Erin McElwain. Breyfogle has a current streak of 86 consecutive matches with at least one block, dating back to the end of the 2006 season. Earlier this season, Breyfogle broke the Baylor record with 12 blocks in a three-set match.

Trice, a pre-physical therapy major from Sugar Land, Texas, has had a breakout season for the Bears in the back row. She has recorded double-digit digs in 14 matches in 2009, including a career-high 17 against Iowa State on Oct. 28. Trice is fourth on the team in digs, averaging 2.34 per set.

Sanders, a history major from Katy, Texas, has made an assault on the BU record books this season, breaking the rally-scoring era record for attempts and kills in a career. She leads the Bears in kills with 308, averaging 3.11 per set. Sanders also leads the Bears with 14 double-doubles in 2009. Earlier this season, she passed the 1,000-dig plateau, making her only the seventh player in BU history with more than 1,000 digs and 1,000 kills.

Rice, a pre-medicine major from Waco, Texas, has been a solid addition in the back row for the Bears, ranking fifth on the team in digs with 1.93 per set. She has recorded six matches with double-digit digs, including a career-high 18 in a five-set win over New Mexico on Sept. 11. Rice has made just three receiving errors in 152 total chances on serve-receive for a .980 reception percentage.

Baylor is on its way to one of the best season in program history with a 21-7 overall record, and travels to face No. 9 Nebraska on Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at the Nebraska Coliseum in Lincoln, Neb.
