VB's Campbell Named Big 12 POW

IRVING, Texas - Baylor freshman middle blocker Torri Campbell earned her first career Big 12 honor, being named the league Rookie of the Week for her performances in BU's two matches last week, as announced by league officials on Monday.
Campbell, a freshman, set career highs with 18 kills and nine blocks against ninth-ranked Iowa State in a heart-breaking 3-2 road loss. The Amarillo, Texas, native then helped the Bears bounce back with 10 kills and a block in a sweep over Texas Tech at the Ferrell Center.
Campbell averaged 3.50 kills per set for the week, and a league-best 1.25 blocks per set, while hitting a team-best .290 (28-8-69) during the week. The 30th-ranked recruit in the nation entering the season, Campbell has met the challenge of Big 12 opponents. On the season, she is averaging 2.62 kills and 1.04 blocks per set in conference matches, compared to 1.81 kills and 0.85 blocks per set against non-conference opponents.
Texas' Destinee Hooker was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, while Iowa State's Ashley Mass earned Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The award is the third of the season for Baylor. Anna Breyfogle earned defensive honors on Aug. 31, while Taylor Barnes earned league offensive honors on Sept. 28.
No. 20 Baylor will be back on the court against Oklahoma at the Ferrell Center on Wednesday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m.
