BAYLOR AT THE GETTERMAN CLASSIC
This season marks the eighth rendition of the Getterman Classic. Baylor won each of the first two Getterman Classics, going 6-0 both years, before Pacific captured the 2004 title with a 5-0 record. Baylor reclaimed the title in 2005, posting a perfect 6-0 record as Tulsa claimed the 2006 title with a 3-1 record. The Lady Bears once again reclaimed the crown by going a perfect 6-0 in 2007, but Purdue won the 2008 title with a 4-0 record. In 37 games, Baylor is 33-4 all-time at the Getterman Classic as the Lady Bears have out-scored opponents 254-61 over the tournament's seven-year history.
CANION'S CANNON
Freshman Whitney announced her presence with authority this past weekend, going 1-1 with a 0.54 ERA against the No.1 team in the country, Florida. Canion threw 13 innings, striking out 19 and allowed just one earned run. For her effort, she was named Big 12 Conference co-Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. She became the first Baylor pitcher to win the award since Lisa Ferguson did so on March 27, 2007.
ONE FOR THE RECORD BOOKS
When Baylor stepped off of the field at Florida on Feb. 8, the Lady bears had accomplished something no other Baylor softball team had in program history. The Lady Bears' 1-0 win over the Gators marked the first win over a number one team in Baylor softball history.
