A trio of Baylor men's tennis players were named All-Big 12 selections the league office announced today and head coach Matt Knoll was named co-Coach of the Year.
Junior Denes Lukacs and sophomore Jordan Rux were named all-league in singles while Rux and senior David Galic were honored in doubles.
The sixth-ranked Lukacs was named All-Big 12 in singles for the third straight season. He was the Big 12's No. 1 singles champion with a 6-0 mark and is a team-leading 29-8 on the year and 19-5 in dual match action.
Rux was a double honoree by the league, garnering All-Big 12 honors in both singles and doubles. The 45th-ranked sophomore ranks No. 2 on the squad in singles with a 25-11 mark. He is the Big 12's No. 2 singles co-champion with a 5-1 mark and is 16-8 in dual match play. Rux was named the Big 12 Championship's most outstanding player after clinching the championship match for the Bears.
Galic is a three-time all-league selection in doubles now after teaming with Matija Zgaga in 2007 and Lukacs in 2008 and earning All-Big 12 kudos. This season he and Rux have posted an 11-5 record, all of which came in dual match competition. The tandem is currently ranked No. 18 nationally.
Knoll, who has guided his sixth-ranked Bears to a 23-5 record so far this season, was named Big 12 Coach of the Year for the sixth time in the league's 13 years of existence. He was also honored in 1998, '02, '03, '04 and '07. Knoll has led the Bears to nine regular season Big 12 Conference titles and seven league postseason tournament championships as well. Under Knoll the Bears are 82-13 in Big 12 play.
The All-Big 12 honors are selected by the league's head coaches who are not allowed to vote for their own players.
