No. 5 Badenhorst headlines six Bears in singles, doubles action Sept. 19-27
TULSA, Okla. – Baylor men's tennis opens the 2026-27 season this week at the ITA Men's All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., with Bears in singles and doubles competition from Sept. 19-27.
Senior Devin Badenhorst enters main draw singles with a No. 5 preseason ranking, joined by No. 28 Connor Van Schalkwyk and Louis Bowden. Bowden earned his main draw spot on a wildcard after winning the ITA National Summer Championships over the summer in Waco.
No. 94 Erik Schiessl, a senior transfer from Florida State, will compete in qualifying singles, while Calvin Baierl and Radek Chodora begin play in pre-qualifying singles. Drew Hedgecoe and Gordon Gallagher are listed as pre-qualifying singles alternates.
In doubles, the No. 14 pairing of Van Schalkwyk and Schiessl heads to the main draw. Badenhorst and Baierl, ranked No. 78, are set as qualifying doubles alternates, with Hedgecoe and Chodora as pre-qualifying doubles alternates.
The tournament will be the first appearance in Green and Gold for newcomers Chodora, Gallagher and Schiessl.
The event features a 160-player pre-qualifying singles draw that narrows to a 64-player qualifying bracket and a 64-player main draw. Doubles runs through 32-team fields at each stage.
Ten singles players, the eight main draw quarterfinalists and two consolation finalists, will punch tickets to the NCAA Singles Championship. Five doubles teams, the four main draw semifinalists and the consolation champion, will advance to the NCAA Doubles Championship, set for Nov. 17-22 in Athens, Georgia.
Play begins Saturday with pre-qualifying singles and doubles rounds and runs through singles and doubles finals on Sunday, Sept. 27. Matches will live streamed through TrackTennis. More information on the tournament can be found at the ITA All-American Tournament page.
