MT - Former Bear Becker Wins ATP Title

DEN BOSCH, Netherlands - Former Baylor men's tennis player Benjamin Becker won his first ATP title on Saturday, defeating Raemon Sluiter, Dutch wild card, 7-5, 6-3, at the Ordina Open.

Becker, ranked 82nd, beat top-seeded Fernando Verdasco and No. 4 Rainer Schuettler on his way to the final.

Becker is scheduled to begin play on Monday at Wimbledon and will face Roko Karanusic of Croatia in the opening round.

Becker a four-year standout at Baylor and three time singles All-American, claimed the 2004 NCAA singles championship and led the Bears to the NCAA team title that same year. It was the school's first-ever team NCAA championship. Becker finished his Baylor career as the program's leader in singles and doubles victories with 141 and 104, respectively. Over Becker's four seasons the Bears posted a 120-7 team record.
