WACO, Texas - Baylor's Dustin Dickerson and Shaver Hansen signed professional contracts with their respective Major League Baseball clubs late Monday night. Dickerson was a sixth-round selection of the Florida Marlins in the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft. Hansen, also a sixth-round draftee, was selected by the Seattle Mariners.
Dickerson reports Wednesday to the Class A short season Jamestown Jammers of the New York-Penn League. Hansen reports Wednesday to the Class A Clinton Lumberkings of the Midwest League.
A product of Waco's Midway High School, Dickerson led the Bears with a .377 batting average in 2009 and ranked second in the Big 12 in that category. He produced 10 home runs, 47 RBI, 16 doubles, 86 hits and 50 runs en route to first-team All-Big 12 honors. Dickerson turned in a 24-game hitting streak that was the longest in the Big 12 this season and the third-longest in Baylor history; he also hit safely in 39 of the season's final 41 games.
