HIGHLANDS RANCH, Colo. - Two Lady Bears finished in the top five, while the Baylor women's golf team finished third overall Wednesday at the Ron Moore Women's Intercollegiate. Baylor, which entered the final round in second place, shot 12-over to finish at 34-over (299-299-300=898).

Host Denver won the tournament with a final score of 15-over (298-287-294=879). UC Davis finished second at 29-over (300-299-294=893). Iowa State and Illinois rounded out the top five at 47-over and 48-over, respectively.

"Honestly, we're leaving a little disappointed," Baylor head women's golf coach Sylvia Ferdon said. "Hannah (Burke) had a chance to win, but she struggled a bit during a six-hole stretch, but managed to shoot 1-over on the final five holes."

All five Lady Bears finished in the top 30. Senior Hannah Burke was Baylor's highest finisher in third place overall after shooting 2-over (72-71-75=218) for the tournament. Burke, who shared the lead through two rounds, fired a 3-over 75 during Wednesday's final round. Burke's third-place finish is her ninth career top-five and 16th career top-10 finish, which rank second on Baylor's career list in both categories.

Lene Hafsten-Morch finished tied for fifth overall in her first tournament of the 2009-10 season. Hafsten-Morch shot a 2-over 74 Wednesday to finish at 7-over (73-76-74=223). Junior Morgan Chambers recorded the Lady Bears' best individual round Wednesday with a 1-over 73 to finish tied for 15th overall at 14-over (82-75-73=230).

"Lene (Hafsten-Morch) and Morgan (Chambers) both played well today," Ferdon said. "It is good to have our juniors come through and play that well."

Sophomore Jaclyn Jansen finished tied for 23rd at 16-over (76-78-78=232), followed by Chelsey Cothran in 28th at 18-over (78-77-79=234). Freshman Melanie White shot 20-over (79-83-74=236) to finish tied for 34th as an individual.

"Everyone contributed this week and I'd like to continue seeing that consistency as the season progresses," Ferdon said. "I'm proud of the way they battled through tough weather conditions every day. Now, we have a few weeks to work on some things before going to New Mexico State."

Hafsten-Morch shot 2-under on par-3s for the tournament, while Burke led the field with a 1-under score on par-4s. White led the tournament field with a 2-under on par-5s and tournament-best 10 birdies.

Next up for the Baylor Lady Bears is Price's "Give-Em Five" Invitational Oct. 12-14 at the New Mexico State Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M.
