Sophomore Torri Campbell and senior Elizabeth Graham each had 13 kills, but the Baylor offense committed 24 errors, hitting only .134 (45-24-157) on the night. Missouri, on the other hand, committed 25 errors, but hit .216 with 15 more kills than Baylor. Outside hitter Paola Ampudia had a match-high 23 for the Tigers.
After dropping the first two sets, Baylor started to mount a comeback with a win in the third set, but Missouri answered with a 25-15 win in the fourth set.
Defensively, Caitlyn Trice posted 20 digs, to continue her streak of double-digit dig matches to 20. Allison King added 19 digs and seven kills, while Graham had five blocks and Campbell had four.
In the first set, Baylor took the first point with a block by Campbell and King, but Missouri ripped off the next seven points to take control of the set early. BU scored five in a row with two Graham kills and a service ace by Qian Zhang to get back to within two at 11-9. MU extended the lead to 19-10 with an 8-1 run before two King kills slowed down the Tiger attack. Graham added two more kills in the set, but it wasn't enough as Missouri took it 25-18.
The second set was tied through the first 20 serves at 10-10, with Campbell and Graham each recording two kills. Two MU attack errors tied the score at 14-14, but Missouri again took over with a 10-3 run to make it 24-17. Graham, Zoe Adom and King all got consecutive kills to defeat three set-points, but Ampudia put away a kill to end the set 25-20.
Baylor's offense stepped it up in the third set with 14 kills and just three errors. Baylor battled out of an 8-5 hole with a 5-1 run, including back-to-back block assists by Graham and Adom on Ampudia. Another block of Ampudia by Campbell and Ashley Byrd made it 15-12, but MU was able to tie the game at 20-20. From there, Graham and King recorded kills, and Adom gave Baylor set-point at 24-20. After two MU points, Graham finished it off at 25-22 with a kill.
Baylor's offensive woes returned in the fourth set, with only eight kills and seven errors. Missouri earned a service ace to take a 9-4 lead, but scored three of the next four points, capped by a Graham kill. Up 11-7, the Tigers then reeled off 10 of the next 14 points on their way to a 25-15 set win.
The Bears will be back in action with the first of a two-match homestand on Wednesday, Oct. 20. Baylor will face Kansas State at 7 p.m. in the Ferrell Center.
