WACO, Texas - Baylor's volleyball team will begin its spring exhibition schedule this weekend in the first of four tournaments slated over the next six weeks.
The Bears will kick off the spring schedule in Houston, Texas, for the Texas Tornados College Tournament on Saturday, March 20. Baylor will play four matches, including McNeese State, SMU, Lamar and TCU.
On March 27, the Bears will be back in Houston for the Rice Spring Volleyball Tournament at Tudor Fieldhouse on Rice University's campus. Games will be played on Autry Court and Fox Gym, both located in Tudor. Baylor will take on Arkansas, Miami and Rice in the tournament.
After a weekend off, Baylor will travel to San Marcos, Texas, for a tournament at Texas State on April 10. The Bears will then return home for their final spring date, April 24, at the Ferrell Center. Baylor will host Texas Tech and Stephen F. Austin.
The 2009 Bears put together a historic season, ending the season ranked No. 20 by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The Bears (24-10, 11-9 Big 12) ended the season with an NCAA Tournament Sweet 16 run that included a sweep of Georgia Tech and an upset of eighth-seeded UCLA in Los Angeles, before coming to a halt against ninth-seeded California.
Individually, senior setter Taylor Barnes and senior middle blocker Anna Breyfogle became the first All-Americans in program history when they were named to the AVCA All-America Honorable Mention. Both earned all-Big 12 and all-region honors, while Breyfogle was named the Big 12's Defensive Player of the Year. Freshman middle blocker Torri Campbell was named to the All-Big 12 Freshman Team.
