VB Set to Host Texas Tech, SFA

WACO, Texas - Baylor's volleyball team will host Texas Tech and Stephen F. Austin in a round-robin tournament to conclude its spring season at the Ferrell Center on Saturday, April 24. The Lady Bears will take on Texas Tech at 10 a.m., then Stephen F. Austin at 3 p.m., while TTU and SFA will square off at in between at 12:30 p.m.

The event, with each match being played in a best-of-five format, will be open to the public with free admission. The day will also feature an autograph session with the student-athletes.

The Bears are have won 11 of 15 sets played during three tournament so far this spring, after losing three seniors from last year's team and adding one mid-year transfer.

"This is definitely the hardest working team I have coached," head coach Jim Barnes said. "We have made a lot of big strides this spring in filling the void left by our three seniors. Right now, it's about this team finding its own identity, and that has been that they are willing to work hard."

Baylor is coming off one of the most historic seasons in program history with its first ever trip to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament and a 24-10 overall record. The Bears finished the regular season with an 11-9 record in Big 12 play, the second-best mark in program history. Baylor also had its first two All-Americans in the program with senior setter Taylor Barnes and senior middle blocker Anna Breyfogle.

Baylor returns 12 letterwinners and four starters for the 2010-11 season, while adding one mid-year transfer from Missouri, Kate Harris, along with two high school seniors, who will join the team in the fall.
