WACO, Texas - For the second straight game Dani Leal scored the game winning run in extra innings, as an RBI-single from Jordan Vannatta led Baylor (21-10, 2-2) to a 1-0 win over Texas Tech (29-6, 1-2) in nine innings Saturday afternoon at Getterman Stadium.
"This team is just finding ways to win," head coach Glenn Moore said. "I can't say I am pleased with our offense, but Courtney Repka is throwing really well and giving us chances to win."
Courtney Repka (14-6) picked up her third complete-game shutout of the season, striking out seven, allowing six hits and walking just two in 9.0 innings of work.
The Lady Bears, who were outhit 6-5, got a pair of hits from Vannatta, including the game-winner.
Ashly Jacobs (11-2) took the loss, allowing one unearned run, five hits, walking a pair and striking out three in 8.2 innings.
In the bottom of the ninth, Leal walked with two outs, and Vannatta took an 0-2 pitch to left center for a single. With Leal on her way to third, the center fielder bobbled the ball and Leal beat the wide throw home.
The Red Raiders threatened to break open the scoreless game in the eighth, but with runners on first and second and two outs, Logan Hall lined out to third to end the inning.
Baylor started out strong in the bottom of the first, as Tiffany and Nicole Wesley led off the inning with hits. Courtney Nieten then laid down a sac bunt to get the runners in scoring position, but a pair of infield pop outs ended the threat.
The Lady Bears had Kayce Walker, who singled, at third with one out in the second, but back-to-back strikeouts stranded her, keeping the game scoreless.
Texas Tech stranded eight runners to BU's four.
Baylor and Texas Tech will finish the series on Monday, April 5 at 5:00 p.m. at Getterman Stadium.
