AUSTIN, Texas - The eighth-ranked Texas Longhorns proved to be too much for Baylor down the stretch, as the Bears were swept in their Big 12 opener 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-14) on Saturday in Austin, Texas.

Baylor made strong runs near the end of each of the first two sets, but each time Texas had the answer. The Bears took a lead at 20-19 in the first set, and tied it as late as 23-23, but UT held them off. In the second set, the BU closed to within 20-17 and 24-21 before dropping the set.

Senior libero Caitlyn Trice recorded her 12th consecutive match with double-digit digs, racking up a match-high 12. Allison King added 11 digs to go along with her five kills, while Torri Campbell led the offense with nine kills. Briana Tolbert and Elizabeth Graham each had six kills.

Baylor hit .160 in the match, while the Longhorns managed a .237 hitting percentage after hitting at a .457 clip in the match's final set. Rachael Adams led UT with 10 kills while Sydney Yogi had 10 digs.

In the first set, Baylor rallied from deficits of 13-8 and 17-11 to tie the set late. BU got three kills and a block by Elizabeth Graham to go on a 6-0 run to tie the match at 18, then took their first lead of the set at 20-19 on a Texas error. The Longhorns scored four in a row, but BU answered with three of their own on kills by Campbell and King. From there, UT ended it with a kill and service ace 25-23.

The second set started the same way for Baylor, falling behind 14-9 before rallying to close within 20-17 on another back-to-back kill and block by Graham. Texas regained its six-point lead at 24-18, but Baylor made it interesting with three points in a row with a kill and block by Campbell. Adams came up with a kill for UT to end it 25-21.

In the third set, the Texas offense turned a 9-8 lead into a 20-11 cushion with a consistent display of offense. The Longhorns hit .457 in the set with 17 kills and just one error in 35 total attempts. The Bears had just 10 kills with five errors in 34 attempts in the set, losing 25-14.

Baylor (7-5, 0-1) will be back on the court at the Ferrell Center against the No. 11 Iowa State Cyclones at 7 p.m. The match ends a four-match roadtrip with a 3-1 record for Baylor.
