FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - The Baylor men's and women's cross country teams finished 13th and 14th at the 25th Annual Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota in Falcon Heights, Minn.
In the 8,000-meter Men's Gold Race, Baylor was led by a 53rd-place finish by senior Robbie Knorr to help the team to a 13th-place finish with 380 total points. Duke took the men's team title with 83 points, while men's defending Griak champion Iowa State was seventh with 200 points.
In the 6,000-meter Women's Gold Race, Baylor was led by a 20th-place finish from Cate Westenhover to place 14th as a team with 346 points. Arizona won the women's team title with 76 total points, while women's defending Griak champion Iowa State placed third with 113 points.
"We were very passionate and aggressive today, but it caught up with us later in the race," head coach Todd Harbour said. "It's a tough course, but Cate ran a really good race for the women, and Robbie and Brandon White had solid efforts for the men."
Knorr was the top finisher for the men in 53rd place with a time of 25:25, just 18 seconds ahead of teammate Brandon White's 78th-place finish. Ben Haby was next across the line for the Bears in 96th with a time of 25:59, while Brandon Reed finished in 112th at 26:09. Brad Miles rounded out the top five for the men in 114th with a time of 26:10.
Westenhover was the only Baylor runner to top the 22-minute mark with a time of 21:35 for a 20th-place finish. Senior Leigh Ann Ganzar placed 52nd for BU with a time of 22:11, while Kristen Hanselka placed 64th at 22:22. Katie Shaw finished 102nd with a time of 22:52 and Samantha Patty was seven seconds back in 117th place for the Bears.
Baylor will have the next two weekends off before competing at Arkansas' Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark., on Oct. 16. The meet is scheduled for 9:45 a.m.
