LUBBOCK, Texas - Baylor overcame a slow start to dominate Texas Tech 3-0 (25-20, 25-13, 25-18) for its first Big 12 win of the season on Wednesday at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock, Texas.

The Red Raiders (2-12, 0-5) flew out to a hot start with a 9-2 advantage in the first set, but Baylor (8-7, 1-3) gathered its focus to cruise to a sweep behind 11.0 total blocks from its defense.

"Every win on the road in the Big 12 is a great win, and this one is no different," head coach Jim Barnes said. "It was definitely our defense that got us rolling tonight."

Sophomore Torri Campbell and Big 12 block leader Elizabeth Graham each stood tall at the net for the Baylor defense. Campbell had six blocks and Graham added five to go along with three apiece from Ashlie Christenson and Ashley Byrd. Allison King added a match-high 15 digs, while Caitlyn Trice had 12 to help show BU's defensive ability.

On offense, Christenson led the team with 11 kills, while Byrd and Graham each had nine, leading Baylor to a .307 hitting percentage. The Bears had 47 kills with just 12 errors in 114 total attempts.

The Bears spotted Texas Tech a 9-2 lead in the first set, committing three hitting and one service error. Meanwhile, the Tech offense got two kills each from Amanda Dowdy and Barbara Conceicao. From there, Baylor inched back to within 10-8 after two Tech errors, then tied it at 15-15 with a Graham kill. Tech held tough gaining the lead back at 20-19, but Baylor put on a 6-0 run behind a great stretch from Zoe Adom. Adom got a kill, then team up with Campbell on back-to-back blocks as part of four consecutive Tech hitting errors for a 25-20 set win.

In the second, the Bears tied it a 5-5 with a Byrd kill, before putting on a 12-2 run featuring two kills and a block by King and two blocks by Campbell. Up 17-7, Baylor traded points with TTU until Graham followed a solo block with a block assist alongside Byrd to end it 25-13.

The Bears then grabbed a quick 4-0 lead in the third set with three consecutive kills by Byrd, Graham and Christenson. Byrd and Campbell extended the lead to 10-5 with kills, and then a block assist by Campbell and Byrd made it 19-13. Christenson and Graham put away kills with a five-point lead late to end the set 25-18.

Baylor returns to the Ferrell Center for its next match against Oklahoma on Saturday, Oct. 2. The first serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
