WACO, Texas - Baylor (4-1-0) got four goals from four different players en route to a 4-0 win over UTSA (3-2-0) Friday night at Betty Lou Mays Field. The win moves the Bears to 4-0 at home and marked their fourth shutout of the season.
"The early goal really set the tone for us," head coach Marci Jobson said. "I was happy with the way we started and we did a really nice job of finishing them off. We just need to continue to get better every game."
Baylor took a season-high 34 shots including a season-best 20 on goal. In all, UTSA goalie, Dacia Webb was forced to make 16 saves on the night as the Baylor offense was relentless on the attack.
The Bears got goals from Hanna Gilmore, Lisa Sliwinski, Brittany Hunemuller and Bethany Johnston, while Lotto Smith picked up a pair of assists on the night. With Gilmore's goal, she is currently tied for the conference lead with five.
Gilmore got the scoring underway in the third minute, as Dana Larsen's through ball found Gilmore who slotted it past the keeper for the 1-0 lead.
Despite 17 first-half shots, the Bears held just a 1-0 lead going into the break.
Sliwinski's fourth goal of the season doubled the BU lead just over a minute into the second half, as a pass from Smith was delivered and she buried it for a 2-0 lead.
The Bears' attack was not done, as Hunemuller registered her first goal of the season with a blast over the keeper and into the far post from 15 yards out for a 3-0 advantage.
Despite 10 second-half saves from Webb, Baylor kept coming as Johnston got her first goal of the season in the 70th minute. Christine Clark played a ball into the box that was collected by Johnston and buried to the near post for a 4-0 lead.
BU goalie, Courtney Seelhorst picked up her second shutout of the season, as she faced just two shots on goal.
