Razorback Invitational Heat Sheets
WACO, Texas - Each earning a top 25 national ranking this week, the Baylor men's and women's track and field teams will travel to the Razorback Invitational, hosted by the University of Arkansas on Jan. 28-29 at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
In the rankings released earlier this week by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the Baylor women are slated fifth in the South Central region and 25th in the NCAA, while the men are eighth in the region and 25th nationally. The rankings are based on the performances by current student-athletes at last season's NCAA Championships, as well as their performances thus far this season.
With just one indoor meet in the books, Baylor has a total of 15 student-athletes ranked in the nation's top 50, as well as three relays. Among those ranked are nine student-athletes and one relay in the top 25, led by Marcus Boyd's second-fastest 400-meter time of 46.77 seconds and Skylar White's school-record and fourth-ranked shot put toss of 55 feet, 8.25 inches. Both Boyd and White won their respective events at the Texas A&M Conference Challenge. For her efforts, White earned an automatic bid into the NCAA Indoor Championships and was named the Big 12 Female Athlete of the Week, the first for Baylor since April 2009.
Also ranked in the top 10 are Whitney Prevost, who is fourth in the 200 meters are 20.88, and Jessica Ubanyionwu, who is ninth in the triple jump at 41-5.75. Prevost, ranked 23rd in the 60 meters at 6.73, is joined by fellow sprinter Woodrow Randall in the 200-meter rankings. Randall turned in the 24th-best time nationally in his first meet in a Baylor uniform with a time of 21.36.
For the women, a group of talented sprinters turned in solid performances at Texas A&M as well. Freshman Tiffani McReynolds broke an 11-year-old school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.35, the 12th-best nationally.
Meanwhile, 13-time All-American Tiffany Townsend started her season with 12th best time in the 60 meters at 7.37, and Diamond Richardson turned in a top-10 time nationally in the 400 meters at 54.52. Another Baylor newcomer, junior Brittany OgunMokun turned in a meet-winning 800-meter performance to rank 12th in the NCAA at 2:10.98.
Baylor also had impressive performances on the opening weekend by freshman Robyn Bennett, junior Zac Flowers and the women's distance medley relay team. Bennett won her first-ever race as a Baylor student-athlete, taking the 3,000-meter title with a winning time of 9:47.33, while Flowers also set a personal-best, winning the men's mile in a time of 4:10.65. In the women's DMR, the group of Leigh Ann Ganzar, Lynette Atkinson, Mariah Kelly and Katie Shaw won the race by 55 seconds with a time of 12:12.18.
The meet is scheduled to begin with the multi events at 11 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday. On Friday, field events will start at 3 p.m., while running events will begin at 6 p.m. On Saturday, all running and field events will begin at 11 a.m. Live results will be available at www.flashresults.com.
