WACO, Texas - Despite a crowd of 1,008, the fifth largest in program history, the Baylor soccer team (13-3-2, 4-2-1) fell to No. 2 Oklahoma State (16-0-1, 5-0-1) 1-0 on Friday night at Betty Lou Mays Field. The crowd was the biggest to see a BU home match since Oct. 11, 2002 against Texas A&M.
"We were a little shaky the first 10 minutes and it cost us," head coach Marci Jobson said. "The crowd was great and I want to say thank you to all of the fans for coming out. We played with tremendous effort, we just couldn't convert our chances."
The loss snapped an eight game unbeaten streak and was the first loss for the Bears at home this season.
Kristen Kelley's goal from 20 yards out in the fifth minute of play proved to be the difference. The ball came off the foot of a Baylor defender, right to Kelley, who blasted it off the lower part of the crossbar and straight down across the goal line.
The Bears had a good scoring chance in the 25th minute, as Vic Hoffman ran down a ball behind the Cowgirls' back line, but her shot went just left of the goal.
Lisa Sliwinski nearly scored one minute later, but her volley chance with a defender on her hip was swallowed up by OSU goalie, Adrianna Franch.
Sliwinski led the way with four shots, all on goal, as BU and OSU each had four shots on goal for the game.
Baylor had five corner kicks in the second half, including four in the first 10 minutes, but could not convert.
The Bears will play their final game of the year when they host Oklahoma (6-11, 1-5) Sunday at 5:00 p.m.
