WACO, Texas - Just six days after the end of the indoor season, Baylor's track and field team will be back on the track to begin the outdoor season at the TCU Invitational on Friday, March 18 in Fort Worth, Texas.
Baylor is fresh off a high-ranking finish on the both the men's and women's sides at the NCAA Indoor Championships. The Bears will bring the momentum from a 10th-place women's finish and a 16th-place men's finish into the outdoor season. Both teams exceeded their USTFCCCA rankings entering the indoor national meet.
Baylor's indoor season was filled with newcomers and veterans each making an impact at the conference and national meets. Freshman Tiffani McReynolds enjoyed one of the most successful rookie seasons in Baylor history, breaking the school 60-meter hurdle record seven times, earning a silver medal and All-America honors in the event at the NCAA meet, and winning the Big 12 Conference title.
Along with McReynolds, senior Tiffany Townsend earned two All-America honors during the indoor season, bringing her record total to 15 in her career. Townsend broke the 60-meter and 200-meter dash records at Baylor on her way to placing in the top six in the NCAA in both. Sophomore Jessica Ubanyionwu added All-America honors for the women, placing sixth in the triple jump with a career best.
On the men's side, junior Woodrow Randall and the men's 4x400-meter relay team each put up season-best times at the NCAA Indoor meet. Randall was the last competitor included in the 60-meter field, but placed fourth overall. Meanwhile, the 4x400-meter relay team of Whitney Prevost, Zwede Hewitt, Drew Seale and Marcus Boyd earned the team a second-place finish, marking the fifth consecutive year BU has been in the top two in the event.
With the outdoor season, Baylor adds in all-conference and All-America performers in outdoor-only events such as the 400-meter hurdles, 3,000-meter steeplechase, discus and javelin. Last season, Skylar White placed third nationally as a freshman in the discus, while Christina Holland (400m hurdles), Kristen Hanselka (3,000m steeplechase), Nick Lyons (javelin) each earned all-conference honors in their most successful events.
Action at the Lowdown Track Complex on the campus of TCU will begin at 11:30 a.m. with the throwing events. Running events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with the 4x100-meter relay.
