IRVING, Texas - As the school-record performances mount up, freshman Tiffani McReynolds was recognized by the Big 12 Conference, earning the league's Athlete of the Week award as announced on Tuesday by conference officials.
McReynolds, who broke the BU record in the 100-meter hurdles for the third time, added a Texas Relays title to her growing list of accomplishments in the event. The Baylor rookie out-dueled USC senior Nia Ali for the title, running the nation's fastest time in the process.
In the closest race of the weekend, McReynolds nipped Ali at the line by .002 seconds. With the time showing 12.74 seconds for each runner, the results were further broken down to the one-thousandths of a second, leaving McReynolds at 12.732 and Ali at 12.734.
McReynolds time, run with a +3.6 meters-per-second wind, also registered as the fastest time in the world under any conditions until two professionals ran faster in the next heat.
She also ran the leadoff leg in Baylor's sixth-place 4x100-meter relay team at the meet. The sprint relay finished with a time of 44.26 seconds, the third time in the 44.2-range for the squad.
Baylor will be back on the track in two weeks in the familiar confines of the Hart-Patterson Track and Field Complex. With next weekend off, Baylor will host the Michael Johnson/Dr Pepper Invitational on April 23 in Waco, Texas.
