WACO, Texas - Baylor's volleyball team will conclude its four-tournament spring schedule at the Ferrell Center, hosting TCU and UT-Arlington on Saturday, April 16. The Bears will take on UTA at 10 a.m. and TCU at 2 p.m., while the two visiting squads will face off at noon in the round-robin play.
The event is open to the public with free admission, with each match being played in a best-of-five format.
"We have had a great spring so far," head coach Jim Barnes said. "Briana (Tolbert) and Alyssa (Dibbern) have hit the ball really well, and Kate has done a great job of running our new offense with multiple tempos. Zoe (Adom) has become a constant terminator on the left side and Jordan (Rice) has had a great spring in the back row. They are both ready for a breakout year."
This spring, Baylor has enjoyed a 19-5 record in 24 sets played in the first three tournaments. Baylor opened their spring schedule at the Texas Pride Club Tournament in Houston, Texas, with a 3-1 record in four best-of-three matches. The Bears opened the tournament with a sweep of Rice, getting 10 kills apiece from junior college transfer Alyssa Dibbern and senior-to-be Briana Tolbert.
In its second weekend of the spring season, Baylor's volleyball team played two sets against four different teams at the UTA Tournament in Arlington, Texas. The Bears turned in a 7-1 record in its eight sets, sweeping TCU, UTA and North Texas, while splitting with Missouri State.
Last weekend, the Bears traveled to TCU and went 4-3 in seven total sets, taking both from SMU, dropping two of three to Oklahoma and splitting two sets with North Texas.
In 2010, Barnes' squad turned in a program-high-tying third consecutive winning season, and Big 12-era best third consecutive season with at least nine conference wins. The Bears finished 16-15 overall and 9-11 in conference play. Baylor made their mark on the defensive side during the season, holding the No. 1 digs-per-set spot three separate weeks. The Bears finished first in the Big 12 and third in the NCAA with 18.9 digs-per-set.
