WACO, Texas - Baylor's track and field team will make the short drive to Austin, Texas, for the 84th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium from Wednesday through Saturday on the campus of the University of Texas.
The Bears will take on some of the best relay teams in the country, as well as compete in a variety of events on the track and in the field. Baylor will place four men's relays and three women's relays on the track. The men will compete in the 4x100 meters, 4x400 meters, sprint medley and distance medley relays, while the women are entered in the 4x100, 4x400 and 4x800-meter relays.
Both teams have had success this season so far in the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays. The BU men collected a 4x100-meter title at the Arizona State Invitational with a season-best time of 39.79, and took home gold at the Bobby Lane Invitational in the 4x400-meter relay. The squad ranks ninth in the nation in the 4x100, and sixth in the nation in the 4x400 with a season-best time of 3:05.49.
On the women's side, the relay victories have come as well, taking the 4x100 at the Bobby Lane Invitational and the 4x400 at ASU. The squad's season-best time in the 4x100 of 44.21 ranks 11th, while their time of 3:36.83 ranks 10th in the 4x400 in the NCAA.
Individually, Baylor enters the weekend with a multitude of top performances across board. Most notably, standout freshman Tiffani McReynolds holds the NCAA's fastest time in the 100-meter hurdles with a school-record mark of 12.91. Senior sprinter Tiffany Townsed is fourth in the 100 meters at 11.24, while sophomore thrower Skylar White ranks fourth in the shot put at 56 feet, 3.75 inches, and seventh in the discus at 176-0.
On the men's side, freshman Gabriel El Hanbli ranks among the top 10 in the 400-meter hurdles with his career-best time of 50.83, and senior Nick Lyons is 10th in the javelin at 236-0. Senior Marcus Boyd, a member of both top-10 relay squads, turned in the one of the more spectacular times of the season, clocking a time of 20.47 in the 200 meters last weekend. His mark had a wind reading of 4.9 meters-per-second, which is over the allowable NCAA limit for the performance lists.
Baylor's multi-event athletes will begin action Wednesday, concluding their heptathlon and decathlon events Thursday. The meet will run from Wednesday through Saturday, ending with the men's 4x400-meter relay early Saturday evening.
