Preseason all-Big 12 selection Kaitlynn Pelger is exceeding expectations, leading the league by big margins in kills/set (4.73) and points/set (5.84). She also ranks fourth in the Big 12 in hitting at .364. Going hand-in-hand, S Caitlyn Donahue leads the league at 11.29 assists/set. But, despite great offensive numbers from Pelger, KSU €ˆranks seventh in team hitting percentage at .243.
On defense, the Wildcats are ranked seventh in opponent hitting at .181. Pelger leads the team in blocks/set (1.17) and Kuulei Kabalis leads in digs/set (3.34).
STORYLINES
Baylor fell 3-1 in its Big 12 opener to No. 25 Oklahoma on Wednesday. The Bears out-killed the Sooners by 10, but errors proved costly in the latter stages of Set 1 and Set 3.
Against OU, JR MB Torri Campbell had a season-high 15 kills, with a .426 hitting percentage. JR €ˆDS €ˆKate Harris (21) and FR €ˆDS €ˆHope Ogden (15) each had career-high dig totals.
Individually, SR €ˆL €ˆAllison King is ranked second in the league with 5.11 digs/set, while JR €ˆMB €ˆTorri Campbell is ranked third in the league in hitting percentage at career-best .376.
SR S Brittany Ridenour leads BU with seven (ast-dig) €ˆdouble-doubles. JR €ˆOH €ˆQian Zhang has two (kill-dig) and JR €ˆMB €ˆTorri Campbell (kill-block) and SR €ˆL €ˆAllison King (ast-dig) each have one.
Senior Brittany Ridenour narrowly missed a triple-double in one of her career-best matches to help lead BU over UNLV in five sets. She recorded 48 kills, 14 digs and eight kills to hit .583.
With her first dig against UTEP earlier this season, SR €ˆL Allison King broke the BU career digs record of 1,575 set by Cory Sivertson (1991-94). King's total currently sits at 1,728.
In the Big 12 team rankings, Baylor is second in assists (12.85/set), second in digs (17.15/set), third in kills (13.85/set) and fourth in opponent hitting percentage (.157).
In its four tournaments before Big 12 play, Baylor earned titles at the Baylor Classic and UNLV €ˆClassic, while finishing second at Purdue and Lamar. BU €ˆhas an 11-3 non-conference mark.
