The Jayhawks started the year winning 11 of their first 12 matches, including the highest-ranked win in program history over then-No. 6 Minnesota. But, Kansas started the Big 12 slate 0-2 after having to face No. 8 Texas and No. 18 Iowa State in consecutive matches.
The KU €ˆattack is led by OH €ˆAllison Mayfield, who is second in the Big 12 in kills (4.24/set) and points (4.66/set). KU also excels in blocking, ranking third in the league with two individuals in the top five. MB €ˆCaroline Jarmoc is third (1.30/set) and MB €ˆTaylor Tolefree is fifth (1.24/set).
STORYLINES
- Baylor dropped to 11-6 on the year, and 0-3 in Big 12 play, with a 3-2 loss to Texas A&M on Wednesday in College Station. It was the first five-set loss in the last four five-set matches.
- Baylor will be looking to avoid its first 0-4 start to conference play since the 2002 season. The Bears are also looking to avoid the first four-match losing streak since November 2008.
- After winning six in a row over Kansas at home from 2004-09, Baylor fell last season in four sets to the Jayhawks in Waco. The Bears are 7-4 in the last 11 meetings and 20-13 overall.
- Head coach Jim Barnes is just one win away from tying former coach Brian Hosfeld's school record of 129 wins. Barnes holds BU mark for overall and conference win percentage.
- Junior Kate Harris started her first match of the season at setter, responding with career-highs of 39 assists and 22 digs in a five-set loss at Texas A&M.
- Baylor entered the week ranked 22nd in the NCAA €ˆin digs per set with an average of 17.30. SR €ˆL €ˆAllison King leads the Bears with 4.98/set and is ranked second in Big 12.
- Earlier this season, SR €ˆL Allison King broke the BU career digs record of 1,575 set by Cory Sivertson (1991-94). King's total currently sits at 1,745, ranking her sixth all-time in the Big 12.
