WACO- Despite holding No. 19 Iowa State (18-7, 11-3) to under .200 hitting percentage, Baylor (19-11, 6-9) fell to the Cyclones 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 26-24) on Senior Day, Saturday at the Ferrell Center.
"We lost the match in the serve and pass game," head coach Jim Barnes said. "When we did it well, we were right there with them. Against a team like Iowa State, you have to serve and pass in order to have a chance."
The Bears held ISU to a .198 hitting percentage, but hit just .126 themselves. Torri Campbell led BU with eight kills and .300 hitting, while Zoe Adom and Thea Munch-Soegaard added seven kills.
Defensively, Hope Ogden led Baylor with 16 digs and Munch-Soegaard collected 11. Campbell and Adri Nora each recorded three blocks, as Baylor outblocked Iowa State 7.5-4.
Baylor jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the opening set thanks to an 8-1 run that included six points off the serve of Munch-Soegaard. The Cyclones took the lead back on a 12-1 run that made it 20-16. The Bears would get as close as three the rest of the way, but ISU closed out the first 25-20.
The Bears struggled to get its offense going in the second, swinging -.027. Baylor's 2-1 lead was its last, as Iowa State took the 25-18 win.
Baylor scored six of the first eight points in set three, taking a 6-2 lead. The Bears kept its advantage over the Cyclones until ISU took its first lead of the set, 23-22. Campbell's kill at 24-22 kept the set alive and was followed by a kills from Adom to tie it at 24. Iowa State would reel off the next two points for the 26-24 set win and the match victory.
Baylor will hit the road for its final two matches of the season, beginning with Texas Tech on Wed., Nov. 21 on Fox College Sports at 6 pm in Lubbock.
