TCU Invite Results
FORT WORTH, Texas - After breaking the school record in the weight throw multiple times indoors, Baylor track and field sophomore Erin Atkinson need only one outdoor meet to establish a program-best in the hammer throw on Thursday at the TCU Invitational.
Only a trio of throwing events were held on the opening day of the meet, including the hammer throw and javelin for both the men and women, as well as the women's discus. Baylor claimed two victories in the limited competition, including Atkinson's record hammer throw and a solid victory by Skylar White in the discus.
Entering the meet, the Baylor record in the hammer throw stood at 162 feet, eight inches, but Atkinson shattered that mark by nearly 35 feet with a toss of 197-7. Her mark also currently ranks first in the Big 12 and fifth in the NCAA. Teammate Jasmine Adekoya also had a mark that would have been a new school record, placing fourth in the meet at 162-11.
White, meanwhile, had a solid season opener in the discus with a throw of 166-9 to win the event. Her mark is also tops in the Big 12 and ranks third nationally.
In the women's javelin, Taylor Torres earned a second-place finish in her first collegiate javelin competition with a throw of 123-6. Lauren Rover was one spot back in third at 116-4. For the men, Henry Vildosola had the top javelin mark in fourth of 164-7.
Baylor will be back in action at the TCU Invitational on Friday at the Lowdon Track in Fort Worth, Texas. Field events will begin at 10 a.m. and running events will follow with a 1 p.m. start.
