Track Opens Distance Events at Drake

DES MOINES - In a light day of action that featured only a distance event, Baylor's freshman duo of Rachel Johnson and Erin Hegarty turned in personal bests at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa.
Johnson and Hegarty were the lone competitors for Baylor on its first day of action at Drake Stadium. The distance pair took to the track in a talented 5,000-meter field.
Johnson, a native of Plano, Texas, shaved 37 seconds on her previous collegiate best with a time of 16:33.62 to place fifth overall.
Hegarty, from Richland, Wash., managed to knock more than 18 seconds off her personal best to place seventh overall at 16:35.97.
Baylor will enter eight relays and seven more individual entries over the next two days at the Drake Relays. Action begins on Friday at 8 a.m. with Baylor's first event of the day coming at 9:32 a.m.
