COLUMBIA, Mo. - Jake Miller's sixth-inning two-run double proved to be all the offense Baylor would need, as Josh Turley pitched the Bears to their 12th straight win with a 3-1 victory over Missouri on Thursday night at Taylor Stadium.

Baylor (23-7, 10-0 Big 12) has its longest winning streak since 1999, and the Bears became the first team ever to open Big 12 play with 10 straight wins.

Turley (4-0) allowed one run on six hits in a season-high 8.1 innings to get the win, and Max Garner recorded the final two outs with the bases loaded to earn his first save of the year.

"If last week was one of his (Turley's) shakier outings in a couple of years, this was one of his best," head coach Steve Smith said. "He had plenty of ammunition to get through it, but they got a couple of balls to fall in the ninth inning."

Turley faced just one batter over the minimum through the first eight innings, but three of Missouri's (16-12, 3-4 Big 12) first four batters in the ninth singled to put the potential winning run on base. Garner came out of the bullpen and got a flyout to right and a grounder to Miller at shortstop to end the game.

Missouri's Gavin Stark led off the third inning with a solo homer to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead they would keep through five innings, but the Bears broke through for three runs in the sixth against MU starting pitcher Rob Zastryzny.

Lawton Langford led off with an infield single, but Zastryzny got the next two batters to move one out away from escaping the inning. Logan Vick drew a walk, and Dan Evatt tied the game with a RBI single on a hit-and-run that scored Langford and moved Vick to third base. Cal Towey walked to load the bases, and Miller hit a 1-1 pitch down the left-field line for a two-run double to give the Bears a 3-1 lead.

Baylor only recorded one more hit in the game with an Evatt single in the eighth, but Turley and Garner combined to make the 3-1 lead stand up.

Missouri's leadoff batter reached on an error in the sixth, but he was quickly erased on a double play. A one-out infield single in the eighth brought the potential tying run to the plate, but Langford made a diving stop of a grounder up the middle to start the Bears' third double play of the night.

"We played very well defensively, and I thought we competed well." Smith said. "(The double plays) were big. The one Lawton (Langford) started in the eighth was a big-time play. It was really hit hard to his backhand, but he stays with it and makes a feed, and Jake (Miller) finishes it."

Zastryzny (2-2) took the loss after allowing three runs on six hits with four walks in 8.0 innings. Turley struck out five and walked only one in the win, as Baylor improved to 8-0 this season in games he has started on the mound. Evatt had the Bears' only multi-hit game in a 2-for-4 effort with one RBI, and Towey doubled and walked twice.

Baylor's 10-game winning streak in Big 12 play ties the fourth-longest single-season conference winning streak in Big 12 history and is the Bears' longest-ever winning streak in Big 12 play.

The Bears and Tigers resume their series at 6 p.m. Friday. Baylor is expected to start right-handed pitcher Trent Blank against Missouri southpaw Blake Holovach.
