WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's soccer team recorded its second straight shutout, while five different Bears tallied goals to lead BU to a 5-0 victory over Northwestern State on Sunday afternoon at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field.

"We played a very mature game by staying patient and executing our game plan," head coach Marci Jobson said. "I thought our team depth wore them down and we were able to finish our chances. Now we can regroup and prepare for two great California teams."

For the game, Baylor recorded 37 shots, its highest total in a contest since racking up 40 against Prairie View A&M on Sept. 19, 2010. The five goals scored by the Bears were the most netted since also notching five against Jackson State on Oct. 16, 2010. BU was one corner kick shy of tying the school-record of 15 set in 1997 against Kansas.

The strong offensive output was equaled with a solid defensive showing. The Bears held Northwestern State without a shot in the game, a feat they last accomplished on Aug. 19, 2011 against Sam Houston State. Michelle Kloss started in goal once again for BU and earned the victory by going almost 69 minutes. The sophomore was relieved by freshman Meredith Stark, who finished the contest.

In the first half, Baylor (2-0) dominated the time of possession and had 18 shots including six on goal, but Northwestern State, playing its season opener, held the Bears to only a single score. Jordan Hatler connected with fellow freshman Katie Daigle in the 28th minute when she sent a cross to Daigle, who quickly converted the chance with a shot inside the far post.

The Bears continued to control the ball for extended periods of time in the second half, but would soon begin to convert their scoring opportunities. On a corner kick in the 56th minute, Baylor doubled its lead as Kat Ludlow headed in Vic Hoffman's set piece offering. Only eight minutes later, Larissa Campos scored with a left-footed boot from 30 yards out that sailed over the head of Northwestern State goalkeeper Brooke Bourbonais.

Junior Alex Klein pushed the Baylor lead to 4-0 with a goal in the 73rd minute. Alexa Wilde fed Klein the ball to setup a shot from 15 yards out that found the back of the net. After scoring only one goal in her first two years at Baylor, Klein now has two in 2012.

With less than a minute remaining, Michelle Hagen flicked in a cross from Hatler to give Baylor its final goal of the afternoon and Hatler her second assist of the day. BU had three players reach the two-assist plateau in one game during 2011.

The Bears will now head to California for their first two-game road trip of the year. On Friday, Baylor faces Cal State Northridge and then on Sunday BU tangles with Long Beach State. Baylor will not return to action at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field until August 31 against Nebraska.
