Honolulu, Hawaii - A complete team effort was on display on the island of Oahu, as Baylor (4-0) swept No. 25 Cal (1-2) 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-23) at the Stan Sheriff Center Friday night. The sweep was the first over a ranked opponent since a 3-0 win over No. 11 Iowa State on Sept. 23, 2009 in Waco.

"Tonight was a complete team effort," head coach Jim Barnes said. "Every single player brought something to the table, whether they were struggling or having a great match they each brought energy. Tonight we were the better team."

Freshman Thea Munch-Soegaard put on a show for the Bears, totaling 11 kills to go with 14 digs, each career highs. Alyssa Dibbern and Laura Jones each added seven kills to the BU attack, while Torri Campbell totaled six.

Baylor and Cal remained even until a 6-2 run gave BU a 16-11 lead that pushed to 17-12. The Golden Bears tied the set at 17 and took a brief 18-17 lead, but Baylor answered and never looked back, closing the set for a 25-23 win. Munch-Soegaard had eight of her 14 digs in the opener, while totaling three kills along with Dibbern.

BU found itself down 5-1 in the second set before an early timeout call from Barnes led to a 7-3 run and an 8-8 tie. Trailing 18-17, Mackenzie Mayo served Baylor to a 20-18 lead, forcing a Cal timeout. An ace by the Golden Bears gave them set point, but the Bears would not be denied, taking the final three points for the 26-24 win.

The Bears found themselves in familiar territory again in set three, down 5-1 early. Trailing by as many as five (10-5) Baylor worked the final set to a 16-16 tie off the serve of Hope Ogden and the next point would be the first lead of the game for the Green and Gold. Never looking back, Munch-Soegaard helped guide BU to a 25-23 win with five kills and a .444 hitting percentage in the final set.

Mayo had two of four service aces for Baylor, while Kate Harris added 27 assists in the match. Cal struggled at the service line, registering 11 errors.

The Bears will be back in action on Saturday, taking on No. 6 Hawaii (3-0) at 12:00 a.m. CT.
