WACO - Baylor (13-4, 0-2) held early leads in all three sets but No. 9 Texas (10-3, 3-0) proved too tough in the end, as the Bears fell 3-0 (19-25, 18-25, 22-25) before a crowd of 1,214 on ESPNU at the Ferrell Center.

"I thought we fought tonight, but credit them because they are a great team," head coach Jim Barnes said. "We have to improve offensively, but this young team just continues to learn and get better."

Hope Ogden earned just her second start of the season, leading the team with 12 digs, while Kayci Evans collected 11. Zoe Adom recorded a team-high eight kills to go with three blocks, followed by Torri Campbell's seven kills and Alyssa Dibbern's six.

Texas hit .265 on the night, below their season average of .289, while the Bears swung just .050.

The Bears, who scored the first point of each set, jumped out to an early 4-1 lead in the opener and stretched it to 6-2. Tied at 10, the Longhorns would go on a 9-2 run to take control, eventually winning 25-19. Laura Jones, Adom and Dibbern recorded 90 percent of the team's kills in the first, totaling three apiece.

Set two found BU ahead 5-2 off a couple early kills from Adom. Texas would rally and take the lead at 7-6, never looking back, thanks to 12 Baylor errors in the set. Evans totaled seven of her digs in the set, but UT would pull away for the 25-18 win.

Baylor had another early lead in set three, but a 6-0 run from Texas put the Longhorns ahead 11-7. Down 19-14, the Bears began to claw back, and a service error from Haley Eckerman saw BU down just three, 20-23. After back-to-back Baylor blocks made it 22-24, Texas called timeout and forced an errant attack on the next point from Adri Nora to end the set 25-22 and the match. The Bears collected 3.5 of their 4.5 blocks in the final stanza.

Baylor will remain home for Saturday's match against No. 15 Kansas State (13-1, 0-1) beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.
