COMPLETE FRIDAY RESULTS | SATURDAY HEAT SHEETS

THE RUNDOWN
LEXINGTON, Ky. -
Senior Blake Heriot's win in the 200 meters highlighted the Baylor track and field team's first day at the Rod McCravy Memorial meet on Friday at Nutter Field House.

Heriot clocked the 14th-best mark in the country this year, 21.19, to win the event over 20 other competitors. Heriot's freshman teammate, Trayvon Bromell, was fourth in the event with a time of 21.32.

After winning last week's weight throw competition, Erin Atkinson placed third in the Bluegrass state. The senior uncorked a 65-9.0 [20.04m] throw, which is the 13th-best throw in the nation currently and the 10th-best throw in school history.

Sophomore Felix Obi passed on his final two long jump attempts in order to stay fresh for the triple jump on Saturday, but he still placed third in the long jump competition with a mark of 24-5.75 [7.46m].

With a shuffled lineup and two new faces, Baylor's women's distance medley relay crew of Mariah Kelly, Raena Rhone, Olicia Williams and Maggie Montoya improved by over seven seconds from last week's performance, but still finished fifth.

BU picked up two-top five finishes in the women's 5,000 meters as Alex Davis (17:05.96) was second and Peyton Thomas (17:13.04) took third.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Annie Rhodes tied the school record in the pole vault that she set last week with a jump of 13-2.5 [4.03m] to be sixth.
  • Kehri Jones established a career-best in the 200 meters for a second straight week, turning in a 24.51 to place seventh.
  • Atkinson owns all 10 of the top weight throw performances in school history.
  • Pentathletes Jessica Shadley (3,514) and Jenna Pfeiffer (3,477) both set personal bests for points in the multi-event competition. Those marks were eighth and 10th-best in school history, respectively.
STAT OF THE DAY 4 - The number of personal bests that Jenna Pfeiffer had on the day. She notched the top marks of her collegiate career in the shot put (34-1.25 [10.39m]), the long jump (16-00.50 [4.89m]), the 800 meters (2:19.77) and the overall pentathlon point total (3,477).

TWEET OF THE DAY

TOP QUOTE #1
"It was a good opening day for us that we hope to build off of for tomorrow. Felix (Obi) and Erin (Atkinson) each had good days. Blake (Heriot) and Trayvon (Bromell) in the 200 were both solid. We didn't run the DMR that we hoped to. However, our multi and distance girls all set personal bests." - head coach Todd Harbour
