Anderson, Shankle Advance to USTA/ITA Regional Semifinals

THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas -
All three Baylor women's tennis players were eliminated from singles play, but Kelley Anderson and Blair Shankle advanced to the semifinals of the doubles draw during USTA/ITA Regional Championship action on Saturday at the Hurd Tennis Center.

The pairing of Shankle, a sophomore, and Anderson, a freshman, won its quarterfinal match over TCU's Palina Dubavets and Alexis Periera, 8-2. The third-seeded Baylor duo rolls into the semifinals on Sunday at 9 a.m. where it will face the tournament's top seed, Ines Deheza and Rachel Pierson of Texas A&M.

The Lady Bears saw less success in the singles draw. In the round of 16, 37th-ranked Kiah Generette fell to No. 93 Natalie Beazant of Rice in straight sets, 6-4, 7-6(4). Anderson was also knocked out of the round of 16 after she retired in the third set of her match against No. 31 Stephanie Tan of TCU due to leg cramps. The third set was tied 4-4 when Anderson had to retire. She won the first 6-2 and had dropped the second 4-6.

The 78th-ranked Shankle, the tournament's No. 16 seed, pulled an upset in her round of 16 matchup with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 victory over No. 13 Breaunna Addison of Texas. This victory propelled her into the quarterfinals where she fell to Beazant, 6-3, 7-5.
