Oct. 9, 2014 WACO, Texas - A total of 20 Baylor women's cross country runners will be in action at the HBU Invitational at 5 p.m. on Friday in Houston, Texas.
For a second straight week, Baylor's top runners be off, but a multitude of other members on the roster will get a chance to run a 5,000-meter race hosted by Houston Baptist.
The runners scheduled to be in action for the Lady Bears are Haleigh Blackwell, Caroline Cochran, Rachel Covey, Courtney Cox, Moriah Dadson, Abbie Greenwell, Katie Grovatt, Sarah Guhl, Jenna Henrich, Annie Jaska, Aubree Miller, Erika Overbeck, Sofia Pitoulis, Lexi Reamer, Gretta Smith, Peyton Thomas, Helena Van Loan, Olicia Williams, Mary Woodall and Catherine Zabilski.
The Baylor women are currently ranked No. 22 in the national coaches' poll and are ranked No. 2 in the South Central region. At their last meet out, the women placed 14th at the Chile Pepper with Smith, Overbeck, Guhl, Covey and Lauren Hierholzer recording scoring performances.
Other schools competing at the event include Houston Baptist, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Texas A&M and Texas Southern.
The BU women will be looking to defend the title that they won a year ago at the event. Last season, Overbeck placed fifth with Lindsey Smith and Hierholzer taking sixth and seventh, respectively, to help the Lady Bears claim the crown.
Following the HBU meet, the Baylor men and women will be in action at the Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind., on Oct. 18.
